- Note: shorts are only permitted from September to October 15th & May 15th to June.

Mott Hall is closed for the summer!
Our building will be closed for construction this summer. Our summer site will be at IS 173. All report cards, orientation projects, and OMNY cards will be handled at this location.

MHS 504 Accommodations Information
Section 504 of The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 requires public schools to offer accommodations for eligible students with disabilities. These accommodations help students with special health needs to participate in New York City Department of Education (DOE) programs and activities on an equal basis with their peers who do not have disabilities.

NYCDOE Immunization Requirments
A healthy school setting gives all students the best chance to learn and grow. Vaccines are very important to this effort. They protect children from getting and spreading diseases that can make them very sick. For this reason, we require children aged 2-months to 18-years-old who are entering or attending child care, public school, or private school be vaccinated against certain diseases.

School Hours: 8:00 AM – 2:20 PM
Breakfast and student supervision begin at 7:30 AM.
Cell Phone & Smart Device Policy: Mott Hall has proudly been a cell phone-free school for several years. This year, the policy is now a citywide requirement for all NYC Public Schools. To promote a safe and distraction-free learning environment, all cell phones and smart devices, including smart watches, will be collected at the beginning of the school day and returned to students at dismissal.

The goal of the Mott Hall School’s curriculum is the development of skilled students who are self-directed critical thinkers. At Mott Hall, all of our students engage in an advanced curriculum with the goal of leaving eighth grade with high school Regents credits. To that end, our team of phenomenal teachers leverage many tools to meet students where they are and to push them towards mastery of key skills and concepts. Below, you'll find a list of curriculum materials our school utilizes to achieve this goal.

Young Scholars
Mott Hall students are considered young scholars. They learn subject matter through a constructivist and project-based approach using powerful learning techniques such as Socratic dialogues, literature circles, writing for student publications, digital film making and web site creation.
The curriculum is further enriched by its alignment to the Common Core NationalStandards. Students are offered accelerated special courses and seminars as well as special enrichment electives such as chess, robotics and stock market studies which engage them in real world investigations tied directly to student needs and interests.
Technology @ MHS
Mott Hall has a technology-rich environment. As one of the first schools in NYC to have laptops, we have continued to grow in our use of technology both in and out of the classroom. Each student has their own device for use at school, and students can request a device to use at home throughout the school year (see forms below). Our teachers use Google Classroom to post work and grades. We encourage parents to facilitate a weekly check-in on assignments to support our scholars in their academic progress.
